With their installation series REMOTEWORDS ongoing since 2007, Achim Mohné and Uta Kopp have developed an artistic procedure for a changed world that has become a display in its entirety since the introduction of online atlases fed by orbital satellites.
During the course of their project spanning more than a decade, they have predominantly used roof surfaces of international cultural institutions to place messages with simple means that became visible only after a short delay on Google Earth and other cartographic platforms. They have thus succeeded in making people aware of the permanently surveyed surface of the earth as something that is no longer subjected only to natural processes and the responsibility of states and private-sector corporations, but also to that of individuals. This publication documents the thirty-five unique actions of the REMOTEWORDS project and contextualizes them in a comprehensive way with highly diverse statements and essays from the perspective of cultural studies, art and media history, literature and media psychology
Orbital Irritations is published in the edition KHM, a cooperation project between the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the Herbert von Halem Verlag.
